Suspect arrested for homicide by vehicle, ax

County police have arrested a man suspected of killing his father with a vehicle and an ax.

At about 8 p.m. on Nov. 4, police responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence on Black Heath Road. Upon arrival, officers located Nicholas S. Altimari, 61, of the 1500 block of Black Heath Road, in the driveway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation indicates he was struck with a vehicle and an ax.

An adult female on the scene supplied police with suspect information. The woman, who was also injured in the incident, was transported to an area hospital, where she was treated and released.

The suspect, Frank X. Altimari, 31, who is the son of Nicholas Altimari, was located in Richmond and taken into custody without incident. Frank Altimari, of the 3100 block of Klondike Road in Richmond, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond.

Boater drowns in Falling Creek Reservoir

County police are investigating the drowning death of a man in Falling Creek Reservoir last week.

At about 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, a boat occupied by two men capsized in the reservoir. One man attempted to help the other to safety, but both continued to struggle. When the first man went to retrieve the boat, the second man, Fitcher W. Wilkins, Sr., 81, of Richmond, went under water and did not resurface.

Chesterfield County Fire & EMS responded and began searching for Wilkins. At about 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 3, members of the Scuba Rescue Team recovered Wilkins’ body, which was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police continue to investigate this incident, but foul play is not suspected at this point.

Driver killed in single-vehicle crash

County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in the 21700 block of Hull Street Road at about 6 a.m. on Nov. 6.

Police said a 2007 Mercury Milan was traveling east on Hull Street Road when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and struck a tree in the median. The driver of the vehicle, Lauren N. Goode, 23, of the 22700 block of Hull Street Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.
