Dr. Susan Wolver Dr. Susan Wolver Midlothian doctor wins national award

Dr. Susan Wolver has been awarded the American College of Physicians Award for Distinguished Contributions to Behavioral Medicine. The award is bestowed for distinguished contributions to the integration of behavioral medicine with traditional medicine. This award is given to an individual who has furthered the care of patients by recognizing the importance of caring for the whole patient, both mind and body. A resident of Midlothian, Dr. Wolver is associate professor of medicine and assistant chief medical information officer at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems in Richmond.

Chesterfield County residents can recycle their live, undecorated Christmas trees at either of the county’s two convenience centers at no charge through Feb. 18. Trees will be accepted from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Northern Area Convenience Center, 3200 Warbro Road, and on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Southern Area Convenience Center, 6700 Landfill Drive. Chesterfield County’s Department of Mental Health Support Services has announced a change to its hours to better serve its customers. The department will now open a half hour earlier Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m., and will close on Mondays at 5 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. This change will help the department better meet customers’ needs since there is a high demand between 8-9 a.m. and throughout the day, and the need drops after 4 p.m. The department will be open until 9 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays for general requests as well as for the substance-use disorder groups that meet in the evenings. The new hours of operation will be Monday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m-5 p.m. For additional information, call 748-1227.

Achievements

HCA Virginia has announced that Roberta Tinch is chief operating officer for Johnston-Willis Hospital. Tinch has previously served as COO of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Fredericksburg since 2014. A native of Richmond, she received a bachelor of arts in anthropology from the University of Virginia and a master of health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University where she was selected as one of HCA’s Emerging Healthcare Leaders. Recently, she was named the recipient of the Regent’s Award for Outstanding Service to ACHE and VCU’s Health Administration Young Alumni of the Year.

Richard Witt, Chesterfield County’s building inspection director, has been appointed to serve as chair to the State Building Code Technical Review Board by Gov. Terry McAuliffe. Cub Scout Troop Pack 2815, from Chester United Methodist Church, participated in the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester on Saturday, Dec. 16. The scouts placed small American flags on all of the veterans’ graves and then assisted in laying wreaths on the veterans’ graves.
