Crash in Powhatan kills Midlothian man

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that took place on Feb. 15 in Powhatan County.

A preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 4:42 p.m. at Route 711 and Aston Trail, a 2002 BMW M3 was traveling eastbound attempting to pass another vehicle on a hillcrest when it struck a 2004 Honda Civic traveling westbound. The driver of the Honda, Michael Isaac Thompson, 22, of 1312 Gravatt Way in Midlothian, was not wearing his seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the BMW, Richard Conk, 18, of Delaware, was transported to the hospital for the treatment of serious injuries. Charges are pending.

Bank robbery suspect arrested

County police have arrested a man in relation to the robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank location that took place on Feb. 16.

Police say the suspect entered the branch at 7202 Midlothian Turnpike and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapon was displayed, and no one was injured.

Police located and arrested Kyle Cook, 25, of Woodbridge, on Feb. 17 for robbery in relation to the incident. He was arrested without incident and is being held at Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

Abduction suspect arrested

Sosa-SalgueroSosa-SalgueroPolice have arrested a man for an abduction that took place Feb. 16 in the 4900 block of Laudeen Drive.

According to police, the suspect and the victim, a juvenile female, were unknown to each other. The suspect was accompanying a friend while at the home of the victim. When alone, the suspect approached the victim, grabbed her, and pulled her out of the home at about 10 p.m.

The suspect then forced her into his vehicle and fled, not allowing her to escape. The suspect transported the victim to the home of one of his relatives in the 5100 block of South Melody Road. While there, the relative of the suspect contacted police upon realizing what had happened.

Police responded and located the suspect, Carlos Alexer Sosa-Salguero, 22, of North Chesterfield. Sosa-Salguero was arrested and charged with abduction. He is currently being held at Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
